Hello, I'm Indigo and this is my video game walkthrough blog. I'm not amazing but I try my best. I mostly do rpg's because faster paced games are more difficult to screenshot, but that's mostly what I play to begin with so it works out well. Games are mostly going to be Nes/Snes/Gameboy/Gameboy Advance. I hope what I've done can be helpful!

Pokemon Gold Version (Part IX)

Alright, I guess it's finally time to get ourselves over to Goldenrod and check out the Radio Tower. If you don't remember where it is, just go north until you see the train tracks and go west.

I bet you can tell what's going on already. Oh, well. Let's just put on out beat-down shoes and head inside.

Once you win you will get the Basement Key.

Now that we've got that done, go back to the underground (north, still on the west side). There's a path to the right that we didn't go down when we were collecting items before, so go down there now.

Get the hidden item here and then use the Basement Key on the door and go through. As you start to go west you'll be interrupted by your rival.

The switches are labelled from left to right. To start with press 1-3-2-1-3 then go down.

Pick up the hidden item here, then continue left.

Get another hidden item, then take on that trainer above us.

Pick up the Amulet Coin and equip it to the first Pokemon in your party right away. As long as the Pokemon holding it participates in battle, you will earn double the reward money. Go back down the stairs, then go west all the way and south to fight the last Rocket Grunt here.

Go and collect the TM35 Sleep Talk, then talk to the man nearby to get the Card Key. On your way back, go up the stairs and you will find your path is now open. Go to the north section of this area (which is actually the basement of the department store) and take the elevator up to the first floor. Exit and bike back over to the Radio Tower and go up to the 3rd floor.

Use the card key over to the right and fight another rocket here.

When you win, the Director will come and give you the Rainbow Wing (Silver Wing if you're playing Silver version). On your way down, talk to the girl in the green dress just one floor below you to get the Pink Bow. Also talk to the girl with green hair one more floor down to get TM11 Sunny Day.

With that out of the way, let's fly to Blackthorn City and take on the final gym.

Blackthorn City Gym Challenge

This gym focuses on the use of Dragon-type Pokemon, of which there are only 4. The first three are from the first generation and belong to the same family - Dratini, Dragonair and Dragonite (you won't find the last on here, though). These will be weak to Ice attacks. The other one however is Kingdra, which is Water/Dragon and that means its only attack is other Dragon-type attacks. Some trainers also use pure water-types Horsea and Seadra which are from Kingdra's family. Piloswine, Sneasel or Jynx are decent choices for the actual Dragon types (though you'll likely have to teach any of these Icy Wind, or Ice Punch for the latter two). For the others Ampharos, or a strong neutral Pokemon like Ursaring, or a Kingler that knows Strength can be useful.

Go up the stairs behind this trainer, ignore this first set of boulders as they won't help you at all. Go south past the stairs to find a female trainer to fight.

Below her, you'll find two more boulders. Push the one on the right all the way down, then get beneath the other one and just keep pushing it straight up until it hits a wall. Push it right twice into a hole, then go north and fight another trainer.

And Clair decides to pull a Whitney and not give us the badge. Only this time it's worse because we actually have to go and run an errand for her. Siiiiiigh. Let's go, then. Note though, that you'll need a Pokemon that knows Whirlpool for this. Surf behind the gym, enter the cave, go down the ladder, and then exit into the main chamber.

First go right and pick up this hidden item.

Surf down a bit and get this other hidden item here. Note that you can find wild Dratini by surfing here. From here you'll have to go back up, west and south around some rocks. Use Whirlpool when you get to the appropriate spot and continue around the bottom of the path. Avoid the first patch of land you see because it's empty, and continue to the one along the east side of the chamber.

Get another hidden item here, and then grab what we actually came here for - the Dragon Fang in the item ball shown above. As soon as you pick it up Clair will pop out of the water and come to give you your badge.

Rising Badge.png
With this, all Pokemon will obey you regardless of level. You will also be able to use Waterfall outside of battle. She will also give us TM24 Dragonbreath.

And so I'll wrap this up here! Next time we'll be taking on the Elite Four.

  1. Clair was hardcore to beat. I had both Piloswine and Delibird (with Icy Wind) and she still got me down to my Furrett before I managed to beat her

  2. She's really tough, but I found that paralyzing the Kingdra and using Flash on it a few times gave me a better chance. I ALMOST KO'd it before she could use a Hyper Potion, because I noticed she can't use it while Kingdra is recharging from Hyper Beam, but my Lanturn's Thunder didn't deal quite enough damage and she got to heal it. Tragic.
